Dress up if you dare, but be prepared to go all out. And if your costume makes the cut, you win your very own paparazzi club!
I present to you…. The Nippombashi Street Festa! Here’s a short video from the parade. There were so many people that it was all I could do to hold up my iPhone and hope I was filming some of the action.
Anyway, later I met some ninjas. I asked for a picture and was given an outfit.
And a SWORD.
There were funny costumes.
And scary costumes.
Cute costumes!
And group costumes.
And then there were other costumes that I didn’t really understand…
Bird Whisperer?
The Nippombashi Street Festa was a memorable, unique experience that I won’t be forgetting anytime soon. Or ever. Although at some points, the crowds can be a bit overwhelming, if you are ever in Osaka while this annual fest is going on, you MUST check it out. If not for it’s endearing oddness, do it because it’s just a ton of fun! Just give it an hour or two and you will see what I mean. It’s free to attend and it’s costume-optional.

I didn’t know about the festival until a few days before and didn’t have time to scramble and put something together. Next year for sure though! I’ll have to think of something good! 😀
